What is the process of getting into therapy at YHCC?
Depending on schedule availability, first have a FREE phone consultation with Joanne to discuss the needs of the prospective client, during which a review of match for services will be discussed. If both parties agree, then an intake session will be scheduled, payment method & consents signed online, and contacts will be confirmed.
What takes part during the intake appointment?
The intake appointment can happen with or without the child/teen present, for young adults it’s just themselves. During the intake, information is gathered about the biopsychosocial aspects of the client (presenting issue, trauma history, medical history, education/work, hobbies, goals, among others), a diagnosis is identified, and confirmation for treatment/sessions is confirmed.
What does a session look like for a child at YHCC?
The first 5-10min is a check in with the parent/guardian (with or without the child), the rest of the time is for the child’s play and activities with the therapist.
What does a session look like for a teen at YHCC?
The first 5-10min is a check in with the parent/guardian (with or without the teen) OR no check in with the parent/guardian, the rest of the time is for the teen’s conversations and activities with the therapist.
How to explain to a child/teen what is therapy and why they are going to participate in it?
Therapy/counseling is what we call when we meet with a professional person who helps others with their feelings, behaviors, goals, and needs. Discussing the present, the past, or the future. It can look like conversations, activities, play, silence, or anything that resembles a connective interaction with a supportive adult in a way that is safe, effective, and pleasant.
What is the duration, frequency, and extend of therapy?
Sessions can be from 30-55 min long; occurring weekly, biweekly, or monthly; for the duration of a couple of months to years. The factors that determine these measures of time depend on individual needs and styles.
What if I or a child are not ready/willing to continue therapy at this time?
Have a conversation with Joanne about it. Different circumstances can influence our willingness or ability to be in therapy. From readiness to change, to financial means, to changes in life, many things bear weight on engaging and committing to therapy.
What is the cost of therapy sessions?
